Forest Fires

Burn it all, through and through. Everything gone and now all new. Forever different, but ashes remember. We were there.

The fires came slow and then fast. There was no stopping the flames. They were hot and all-consuming. I couldn’t look away.

I hated the fires because they destroyed the trees. The forest was innocent, but in a moment, it was gone. Why did it happen that way?

Many times, there isn’t an answer, only a fire burning. I remember how the heat felt on my face, how the smoke engulfed me. The trees weren’t in front of me any longer. They were inside of me. The fire was inside of me. Burning hot, slow at first, and then all over.

It is still burning, forever. The ashes are how I remember. I will never forget. I can never forget.
